PUR Compassion Campaign

In the late hours of July 29, 2017 Benjamin McIvor passed away from injuries he sustained earlier that evening.

Ben devoted his life to sports. He was a gifted athlete and in high school he participated in football, basketball, track and baseball. After graduating from Williston High School in 1990, he earned a baseball scholarship to Iowa Western and later attended Cameron University in Lawton, OK. He graduated in 1995 with a degree in secondary education/physical education. After graduation, Ben began his first teaching job in Arizona.

For over 20 years he was a coach, mentor, and teacher to many young athletes. He has coached several defensive linemen that went to division 1 schools, and even three who went on to the NFL. He loved his relationships with students, players, staff, and friends. Many of his students viewed him as a father figure. His positive attitude had a way of bringing out the best in everyone he encountered.

Though coaching was his passion, family was his priority. After suffering through the loss of his young son, he made a concentrated effort to cherish the time spent with his loved ones, living each moment to the fullest. He loved to rough house and snuggle with his kids, niece, and nephews. He also enjoyed spending time with his best friend, his father, watching sports or just going for a drive.

Ben was very goal oriented and had many dreams for the future. A prankster at heart, he loved to play jokes or spook people. He would do anything for a smile. His calm nature always made you feel like everything would be alright. He will be greatly missed.

The news of Ben’s death has sent shockwaves throughout his own community as well as his hometown of Williston, ND. Many have asked how they can help his family during this difficult time. We are setting up a campaign to financially support his family and pay for costs associated with his passing.

Ben leaves behind his wife Lacey and sons Jake, twins Brock and Lincoln. Father, Terry McIvor. Sisters Brooke (Jeff) Nordaune, Brittney McIvor. Mother and father-in-law Carolyn and Larry Aldrich, brother-in law Aaron (Heather) Aldrich. Niece, Tregan McIvor. Nephews Tyler and Cooper Nordaune, Louis McIvor, Caleb Aldrich and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
